PLAINFIELD – The Queen City Baseball League (QCBL) 11U team takes the field tonight against Scotch Plains-Fanwood in opening round action of the South Plainfield Summer Slams Tournament at the South Plainfield Junior Baseball Club Complex.

The QCBL season ended last month but in an effort to continue the development of the players, the league has aggressively found more playing opportunities for their athletes.

"By entering these tournaments, it gives our athletes an opportunity to compete against comparable talent and gives our coaches an opportunity to see how other teams operate,” coach Charles Williams said.

More established (in baseball tradition) local towns entered teams in the tournament, but the QCBL sees a learning opportunity,

and relishes the challenge.

"The learning curve can be increased tremendously just by watching, but by playing, the kids gain more experience,” Williams said. "Our ultimate goal is to make baseball a year round sport for our league."

Make no mistake, the Cardinals are not only interested in increasing their playing level and experience, they're very interested in winning.

"Our philosophy is to keep digging, keep playing, keep learning, keep believing in our talent and teachings and eventually, the winning will come," Coach Corwyn Lane said. "We just have to keep playing and learn how to win."

Below is the QCBL schedule:
