PLAINFIELD – After falling behind early, the Plainfield 10U squad chipped away and defeated the Dunellen 10U squad 10-7 in opening round play of the “Battle @ The Rock” Memorial Day Weekend Baseball Tournament hosted by the Queen City Baseball League (QCBL).

Dunellen scored four runs in the first inning on four hits highlighted a by run-scoring triple by #18 and a double by #16. Nicolas Walls manufactured a run for Plainfield in the bottom of the first by singling, then stealing second and third before crossing home plate on a passed ball.

Walls started the game on the mound for Plainfield, held Dunellen scoreless for the next two innings as the home team clawed back in the game. A walk and a single by Kyle Sparrow put two runners on the bases for Tywon Bell. Bell knocked them both in with a single to

center field, to close Dunellen’s lead to one run 4-3.

Plainfield took the lead with a huge third inning. Jordan Brown opened the inning with a single and Toran Smith cleared the bases with an inside-the-park home run for Plainfield’s first lead of the day. Aidan Nolte kept the rally alive with a single, and scored on a triple by Nadir Beyah. David Mullen doubled Beyah home and later scored on a passed ball. After all the damage was done, Plainfield led 8-4.

Dunellen took advantage of the location problems of reliever Toran Smith. Dunellen scored three runs in the fourth inning without a single hit. After the first run was walked in, #16 and #8 scored on passed balls.

With an 8-7 lead Plainfield scored two insurance runs (RBI double by Hasson Jordan and Aidan Nolte scored on a passed ball) to end the scoring.
