PLAINFIELD – Queen City Baseball League (QCBL) has reached out to the surrounding communities in an effort at improving the baseball relations between the nearby towns. QCBL contacted various towns inquiring about the interest of providing the kids an opportunity to play in a tournament with teams on an equal level skill wise.

“We want to give our kids a chance to compete in a tournament with a real chance of winning,” QCBL League Director Anthony Davis Sr. said. “By no means am I discrediting the talent of the players we have, but right now, why go play these traveling all-star teams that have been together for years and play year round?”

Three towns committed and at the end of this month, QCBL will host the first Plainfield “Battle @ The Rock” Memorial Weekend Tournament. Along with the 10U and 12U teams from Plainfield, Dunellen, North Plainfield, and Carteret have entered teams in the tournament.

QCBL sees this tournament as the start of a relationship between the towns that can both raise the interest of baseball and get the kids used to competing. The league does not plan on stopping with the one tournament. There is a larger idea in discussion between the towns.
