NEW YORK - The Donald Van Blake Tennis & Education Foundation (DVBTEF) celebrated the opening to tennis season with a “Tennis Night” that included a trip to Madison Square Garden to witness the BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean Cup on March 1.
The showdown is a one-night tournament, pitting four top women’s professional tennis players.The DVBTEF view the showdown as an opportunity to expose the kids to tennis at the highest level. Traveling 60 strong, the DVBTEF witnessed a final match between Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters in which Williams outlasted Clijsters 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 for the championship.
The next big event on the Plainfield tennis calendar is the Annual Spring Tennis Party.The March 20 party serves as the initial fundraiser for the DVBTEF of the season.
