ELIZABETH - Plainfield, playing on short rest, visited county rival Elizabeth Saturday for their final game before the Union County Tournament.Sophomore Jahmal Lane injected some energy into the lineup as Plainfield coasted to a 71-50 victory.
Sekou Harris connected on a trey late in the opening quarter giving Plainfield the edge after the two teams exchanged baskets most of the way.J.R. Pringley and Jarrell Blalock carried the Minutemen as they tried to match the Cardinals early in the game.
The Cardinals increased their defensive intensity creating buckets in the transition game.Tyrone Johnson picked the pockets of the Minutemen guards four times and Jahmal Lane was the benefactor of the defensive pressure as he converted on four attempts in the second period.Lane led the Cardinals on an 11-0 run to open up a 16-point halftime bulge.
Elizabeth freshman Phillip Walker dropped five early points in the third period as Elizabeth tried to claw their way back into the game.Sophomore Dii'Jon Allen-Jordan played excellently on both end of the floor by rejecting shots and dropping six third period points to extend the Cardinal lead.
Hakeem Rodgers started of the scoring in the fourth quarter with a three- pointer for Elizabeth but the Cardinals responded with a 9-0 run sparked by a Mike Price trey.The Cardinals buckled down on the defensive glass and coasted to the finish.

Justin Sears paced Plainfield with game highs of 14 points and five rebounds. Mike Price dished out a game high five assists, and Tyrone Johnson pitched in five steals.
