Augustine Dashiell

PLAINFIELD – I had to take a break in reporting for PlainfieldSportsNews.com as I was assigned a military detail, RIP PFC Taborek.

In the last week we have received numerous requests for coverage, while we make decisions on what type of commitment we can make, we will post links and work with the press releases we receive.

PHS Notes

After a conversation with soccer coach Joe Colodne at the Westfield game, I was informed of the individual achievement of one of the senior players on the squad.

Kevin Veliz earned First-Team All-Conference, All-County, and All-Section, along with Third-Team A-State honors for his efforts on the pitch last season.

There is a rumor floating around about the PHS football staff. We are working to verify it before publishing.

Jersey Express – New Jersey’s American Basketball Association (ABA) franchise

The Express traveled to Severn, Maryland last weekend and defeated the Maryland Marvels 97-82. The next game for the Express is tonight at the East Orange Campus High School, 344 Prospect Street, East Orange. PlainfieldSportsNews.com will be in the house.

This is the second home game for the undefeated Express (2-0), as part of the fan-friendly entertainment of an Express home game, musical entertainer Te’Neil Nicole will be performing during halftime.

“Our goal is to provide entertaining basketball for the entire family to enjoy at an affordable price with that goal in mind we've added an entertainment division headed by Dwayne ‘Baritone’ Francis,” Express president Marsha Blount said. “Dwayne has already booked artists from record labels that either have projects out or are coming out soon,” Blount continued. “His relationship within the music industry will allow us to provide an element with pregame and halftime performances, all included in the price of admission.”

Tickets for all Express home games are $10, and season ticket packages are still available through the team website at www.JerseyExpress.net.

Sky Blue FC – The 2009 Women's Professional Soccer Champion (WPS)

SOMERSET (NJ) - 2009 Women's Professional Soccer Champion Sky Blue FC bolstered its attack today with the addition of Swedish National Team forward Jessica Landström.

The Stockholm native comes to Sky Blue FC after recently completing this past season with Linköpings FC, winners of the championship in Damallsvenskan, the premier women's soccer

league in Sweden.

"Jessica has a great physical presence on the field," Sky Blue FC head coach Pauliina Miettinen stated. "She is big and strong and will serve us well as a target player. I am confident she will fit right into our system of play."

Sky Blue FC added additional offensive power by officially announcing the signing of Laura Österberg Kalmari, the all-time leading goal scorer in Finnish National Team history. Kalmari is the most capped active player for her nation with 118 international appearances. Kalmari will provide a significant boost to an already impressive Sky Blue FC offense in 2010.

"Laura is magical with the ball, and she has the ability to make others around her shine," Sky Blue FC head coach Pauliina Miettinen stated. "She is brilliant playing with one-touch, and her perception of the field is magnificent. Her pass selection and reading of the game make her one of the world's top players."

UPCOMING OPEN TRYOUTS: Sky Blue FC recently announced a pair of open tryouts that will take place on December 15-16th and January 5-6th at Robbinsville Field House at 153 Manor Way in Robbinsville, New Jersey. Registration for each player combine is $75 and must be paid through the Sky Blue FC online registration that is listed below. Philadelphia Kixx – National Indoor Soccer League (NISL)

We pick up our coverage of the Philadelphia Kixx at game three of the season. The Kixx picked up their first win last night in a 20-6 rout of the previously unbeaten Rockford Rampage in Illinois.

The Kixx play their home games at the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University.
