| Somerset Patriots Soccer Night August 24 2008
|
Somerset, N.J. - The New Jersey Ironmen formally announced that they are collaborating with the Somerset Patriots for their annual Soccer Night. First pitch of that evening is 7:05 p.m. at Commerce Bank Park when the Patriots host the Lancaster Barnstormers on Monday, September 15th.
"We are excited to be involved with such a winning franchise as the Somerset Patriots," Ironmen General Manager Tony Novo commented. "The central New Jersey area is a hotbed for soccer, and we are pleased to see the Patriots dedicate an evening to those involved with the beautiful game."
Throughout the game, there will be various soccer-related activities and promotions. Ironmen players and IronDog will be on hand for the night, and the Ironmen Dance Team will be doing an on-field performance. Also making an appearance will be the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer and Jersey Sky Blue of the USL W-League and upcoming Women's Professional Soccer league.
Based in Bridgewater, the Somerset Patriots play in the Freedom Division of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Founded in 1998, the Patriots are the only club in league history to win three championships (2001, 2003, and 2005). After playing their entire inaugural season on the road, the Patriots moved into Commerce Bank Park in Bridgewater prior to the 1999 season. The team has consistently ranked among the tops of the league in attendance over the past decade. The Patriots boast former major league pitcher, Sparky Lyle as their manager. Lyle amassed 238 saves during his big-league career and was the first American League relief pitcher to win the Cy Young award in 1977 while pitching for the New York Yankees. Lyle’s managerial career includes 2 Atlantic League Manager of the Year awards (1999, 2003). |
